A New Era for Student Athletes
For decades, Cooley High School stood as a symbol of pride, excellence, and athletic dominance in Detroit. Its legendary athletes—All-Americans, Olympic hopefuls, Hall of Famers—made history on its fields and courts, leaving an indelible mark on Michigan sports.
Though the school closed in 2010, that spirit never left.
Now, the DPSCD Foundation is leading the charge to breathe new life into this iconic site—transforming it into the Cooley Sports Facility, a premier athletics destination built to inspire the next generation of Detroit student-athletes.
To bring this vision to life, we are raising $30 million in philanthropic support to complement $15 million in funds already secured for the project. These dollars will help build a facility worthy of Cooley’s history—and essential to our students’ future.

The Cooley Sports Complex will provide Detroit students access to safe, high-quality spaces to train, compete, and thrive—regardless of zip code. This reimagined space will also serve as a community anchor, providing shared resources that support health, belonging, and neighborhood pride.
Indoor Facilities
- Two full-size basketball courts
- 300-meter, 8-lane indoor track
- Two synthetic turf fields for football, soccer, and lacrosse
- Locker rooms, community rooms, offices, and seating for 250 spectators
Outdoor Facilities
- Three lighted synthetic turf fields
- Natural landscaping and stormwater detention site
- Picnic area and 372 parking spaces
This space will host middle and high school competitions, community events, and year-round programming—building a new generation of champions and changemakers.
