Creating and enhancing educational opportunities for @detroitk12 students, families and educators. Donate to support students beyond the classroom

Afterschool programming is a powerful driver of eq Afterschool programming is a powerful driver of equity, access, and student success.

It gives students a space to be seen, to explore their passions, and to build the confidence that carries them beyond the classroom.

Through the 32N OST Grant, the DPSCD Foundation is proud to support enriching afterschool experiences across the District — like the one at Northwestern High School.

Program Director Jamilah Bell reminds us why this work matters: “Some of our students come because this is the only space where they feel seen. These programs give them a sense of belonging — and that changes everything.”

We’re grateful for leaders like Jamilah who show up every day to create these life-changing moments.

As we join the national #LightsOnAfterschool campaign, we invite you to see the impact for yourself.

See how these programs are transforming lives and fueling possibility for Detroit youth.

A new chapter is being written at Cody High School A new chapter is being written at Cody High School! Yesterday, we proudly joined the community to celebrate the groundbreaking of Cody’s brand new school building. It was a powerful moment for students, staff, alumni, and neighbors who have kept the Cody legacy alive and thriving.

Of course, the Cody Marching Band was there to mark the moment. Since their debut at Homecoming, they’ve been on a roll, and yesterday’s performance brought the house down. With @miafterschoolpartnership ‘s #LightsonAfterSchool Day on October 23, it’s the perfect time to celebrate what strong enrichment programming can make possible (forever grateful for the 32N OST Grant!).

And yes — we came dressed for the occasion in our Cody vs. Everybody tee. The @detroitvseverybodyllc DPSCD vs. Everybody collection includes every high school in the District, and proceeds support student programs like the ones that brought Cody’s marching band back to life. It’s a stylish way to show your pride and give back.

What a day in Detroit! For the second year in a ro What a day in Detroit! For the second year in a row, hundreds of DPSCD students from five schools crossed the finish line at the Detroit Free Press Kids Marathon, presented by Priority Health.

This wasn’t just a sprint to race day; it was a marathon of moments that got us here. From training and shoe fittings to deliveries, 25.2 miles logged by each student, and one unforgettable final mile together!

Facilitated by the DPSCD Foundation, this partnership brought together the Detroit Free Press Marathon, Priority Health, Black Men Run, and the DPSCD Athletics Department to make it all possible.

A big thank-you to Bates Academy, Davison Elementary-Middle School, Golightly Education Center, John R. King Academic and Performing Arts Academy, Mackenzie Elementary-Middle School, and Mark Twain School for Scholars for helping our students go the distance over the years.

When the community comes together, our students rise stronger, prouder, and ready for whatever comes next. Join us at www.dpscdfoundation.org!

Something special has been happening after school Something special has been happening after school at Cody.

What started with just a few students and a dream to bring back the marching band has turned into a movement powered by opportunity, dedication, and the 32N Out of School Time (OST) Grant.

The OST Grant gave Cody students what they needed most — time, meals, tutoring, and enrichment — so they could stay after school, bring their grades up, and learn something completely new. It’s the kind of support that changes what’s possible.

Earlier this month, those same students, led by Damian Lyles, marched onto the field in their Cody vs. Everybody shirts by @detroitvseverybodyllc for the first time in nearly 20 years! Their return is more than a comeback story. It’s proof that when students are given access, structure, and encouragement, they rise.

The 32N OST Grant made that possible and has powered stories like this across the District throughout the year.

Stay tuned this week as we celebrate National After School Day with the @miafterschoolpartnership for the #LightsonAfterSchool campaign and shine a light on the power of after-school programming in helping students learn, grow, and lead.

The countdown is on, just 10 days until the Detroi The countdown is on, just 10 days until the Detroit Free Press Kids Marathon. 300 DPSCD students across 5 schools are gearing up to cross the finish line after months of training. Today, as our partners Priority Health, Black Men Run, and the Detroit Free Press Marathon visited each participating school to deliver brand-new running shoes, we popped up at their stop at Mark Twain School for Scholars to join the excitement.

Now in its second year, this growing partnership facilitated by the DPSCD Foundation demonstrates the power of community collaboration in helping Detroit students rise.
After nearly 20 years, the Cody High School Marchi After nearly 20 years, the Cody High School Marching Band is back — and their long-awaited debut is happening tonight.

This incredible revival was made possible through the 32N Out of School Time (OST) Grant, which gives students across Detroit access to tutoring, meals, and enrichment activities that keep them supported and eligible to participate. At Cody, that support allowed students to bring up their grades, learn their instruments, and commit to rebuilding a program that had been silent since 2005.

What started with no instruments and just a handful of students has grown into a dedicated band under the leadership of DPSCD alum and Band Director, Damian Lyles. Tonight (October 3), their hard work will pay off as they take the field at Homecoming for the very first time.

From front pages to your social feeds, Detroit can From front pages to your social feeds, Detroit can’t stop talking about it—the Detroit Children’s Museum is officially reopening.

After years behind the scenes, the Museum will once again shine as a space for students and families to discover, imagine, and grow. This comeback was made possible by $819,200 in grant funding secured by the DPSCD Foundation from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO), along with DPSCD’s investment in repairs to get the facility ready.

Founded in 1917, the Detroit Children’s Museum is one of the oldest children’s museums in the country and houses an extraordinary collection of more than 2.5 million artifacts. From its planetarium to its science and art stations, it’s a place woven into the memories of generations of Detroiters.

Thanks to Crain’s Detroit Business for breaking the story. You can read their exclusive feature using the link in our bio!

Today, our President and CEO Kerrie Mitchell Campb Today, our President and CEO Kerrie Mitchell Campbell-Mabins took the stage at Crain’s Detroit Homecoming during The Skillman Foundation’s segment to share the vision behind DPSCD’s High School Redesign initiative — a bold transformation that puts every student on a clear path to success.

This work is about more than classrooms. It’s about giving every high school student access to an individualized post-secondary plan — supported by the staffing, enrichment, and resources they need to thrive.

It only takes $1,100 per student to make this vision a reality.
