Talent Abounds

No matter where you look you will fine talented DPS students engaged in performances, contests, games, and special projects. This is especially true in the arts. This year the winner of the float design contest sponsored by the Skillman Foundation for the Thanksgiving Parade is a Ludington Middle School student. Also seen in the parade was the All City High School Marching Band. The band will again perform this year at the Outback Bowl in Atlanta. The School of Arts VISION Male Chorus is invited to perform for the second year at AAA Michigan headquarters in Dearborn. The All City Jazz Combo, VISION, and the Renaissance High School String Quartet were great hits at the Foundation fund raiser, Champions of Education.

These are just a few examples of the successes that occur when the students receive support from the community and instruction from committed teachers and coaches. These opportunities before live audiences are instructive in and of themselves about the discipline, help to build student confidence, demonstrate that good things truly are happening in the schools, and teach lessons of teamwork, decision making and ethical behavior.

Student groups across the arts spectrum from music to dance to visual arts, are available to participate in various functions in the metro area. If you are looking for ways to encourage and support our students, please consider inviting a group to join you. You will not be disappointed.
