More than 300 Detroit public school students received FREE running shoes today at an exciting unboxing event for the Priority Health Kids Marathon! Students from six Detroit schools who registered for the marathon were gifted brand new sneakers to help them train for their 25.2-mile challenge. Kids ages 6-13 will walk or run on their own schedule and pace, building up to the big finish on October 18th when 1,000 young runners will complete the final mile together at the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy. Thanks to a $439,000 grant, the school was able to rebuild its music program, giving students access to tutoring, meals, and music lessons. For many, it’s their first time playing an instrument — but through long rehearsals, sore muscles, and determination, they’ve found discipline, belonging, and confidence.
