About us
The Detroit Public Schools Community District Foundation is the official fundraising and partnership arm of Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD), the largest public school district in Michigan. We work to ensure that every student—across every school—has access to the tools, resources, and experiences they need to thrive in and beyond the classroom.
We raise and steward private dollars, forge dynamic partnerships, and rally community support to help meet the evolving needs of DPSCD students. From funding innovative programs to supporting facilities and student services, we exist to uplift the entire educational journey for Detroit’s children.

We are proud to work in lockstep with the District’s leadership and strategic priorities. As DPSCD’s official philanthropic partner, we align our fundraising efforts with the District’s goals—from enhancing academic and career opportunities to expanding student and family support systems.
Together, we’re focused on removing barriers to learning, opening doors to new possibilities, and helping all students access the high-quality education they deserve. This partnership ensures that private support is directed where it’s needed most, powering programs and services that benefit students citywide.
Our History
The Foundation was originally established in 2003 to support Detroit’s public school students with opportunities beyond what public funding alone could provide. In 2009, we were re-imagined and relaunched as a more structured and responsive organization—laying the groundwork for long-term community investment.
In 2023, the Foundation reached a new milestone. As part of our ongoing commitment to deepen our partnership with Detroit Public Schools Community District, we officially changed our name from the DPS Foundation to the DPSCD Foundation. This change not only reflected the district’s renaming but also solidified our shared vision for serving Detroit’s students in a unified and strategic way. Today, our alignment with the District is stronger than ever, and our impact continues to grow.
