Davis Aerospace: Soaring to New Heights
The aviation industry offers the opportunity to earn significant salaries while working in a dynamic and rewarding field. Davis Aerospace Technical High School provides real world experience and prepares DPSCD students with direct paths to high-demand careers. All students from 9-12th grade have access to a number of aviation classes.
In collaboration with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), Davis Aerospace students delve into aviation history, explore diverse careers in the field, and establish a solid foundation in flight fundamentals and aircraft systems.
As students progress, they can take part in a cutting-edge Career and Technical Education Flight Training program, where they gain in-depth knowledge about drones and piloted flights. This unique program prepares students to obtain a remote pilot’s certificate and also offers hands-on experience in state-of-the-art simulators and the exciting possibility of piloting real aircraft.
Currently, the program operates within Golightly Education Center, but the planned relocation of Davis Aerospace back to the Coleman A. Young International Airport – its historic home – will double its enrollment capacity and elevate its programming to new heights.
Preparing Detroit Students for Liftoff
The relocation and revitalization of Davis Aerospace Technical High School is fully funded — marking a bold new chapter for one of Detroit’s most unique and historically significant high schools.
The DPSCD Foundation is proud to have played a critical role in bringing this $14.6 million project to life. We secured a $7 million appropriation from the State of Michigan, with the remaining funding provided by the District’s Facility Master Plan. This investment ensures that students will learn in a state-of-the-art facility located at Detroit City Airport, positioning them for success in aviation, engineering, and related STEM fields.
