We’ve been keeping a secret… and we know you’ve all been waiting. Today’s the day we let it all out!

The plans are set, the design is locked, the food is vetted, Sumptuous Spirits crafted the menu, and the entertainment is secured. Only question is… where???

The Tyrone E. Winfrey Hall of Fame Alumni Gala returns Saturday, May 16, and the destination for A Different World is none other than East English Village Preparatory Academy at Finney. Formerly known as Finney High School, this rebuilt school is just 10 minutes from downtown.

We’re thrilled to take it east this year and transform this standout school into a futuristic, immersive experience. EEVPA is one of the high schools anchoring the District’s new High School Redesign initiative, which will be formally unveiled during the VIP Hour of the Gala.

Every year, we get props on our full transformations at the hands of Kori Fields and team. Come see what she’s created this year.

We don’t play about the food at the Hall of Fame Alumni Gala… and Chef Dom is fully aware! If you’re a fan or Leila, Petty Cash, or Maru, then you already know Chef Dom is one of the best!

We stopped by his kitchen for a private tasting, and he delivered beyond expectations. Every bite was full of flavor, decadence, and originality. The way he pairs flavors and textures… it’s unexpected, but it works every single time.

Chef Dom is bringing that signature touch to the Hall of Fame Alumni Gala on Saturday, May 16, and if the looks on our faces say anything, this is not something you want to miss! Here’s a quick sneak peak, but there’s more to come!

Her journey reflects what this work is all about: preparation, opportunity, and the drive to turn both into something bigger.

@djlyndacarter , Henry Ford High School alumna, is stepping into A Different World. DPSCD introduced her to entrepreneurship and helped shape the path she’s built today.

Today, she’s a force in Detroit’s nightlife and business scene, owner of @mixbricktown, @lockeroomlounge, @sandboxlounge, and @meandyoueast, and a real estate investor. Along the way, she built her tribe at DPSCD, friendships that have lasted to this day.

DJ Lynda Carter will be bringing that same energy to the turntables at the Tyrone E. Winfrey Hall of Fame DPSCD Alumni Gala. Join us on May 16!

Last year, 1,000 guests packed Cass Tech. This year, we’re transforming another iconic school into a Different World with a future-forward twist designed to push beyond the expected and immerse you in something entirely new.

They are using their platforms to advocate for a better future for the next generation of DPSCD students, and that’s worth celebrating. Catch the induction during the VIP Hour, then stay for an unforgettable night as we celebrate their impact and our shared love of DPSCD during the main event.

A different world starts with the right foundation

A different world starts with the right foundation, and Justin Kimpson, Cass Tech alumnus, is proof of what’s possible when students are given real opportunities. Through DPSCD’s cooperative education program, he gained early exposure to the business world and built the skills that launched his career in corporate America.

Today, he’s not just thriving, he’s giving back, leading impactful work through Ford Philanthropy and Gleaners Food Bank.

DPSCD helped shape his path, and now he’s creating opportunities for others to experience a different world. This is something to celebrate!
