Health Hubs Where Wellness Meets Opportunity

For many Detroit students, academic success begins long before they walk into a classroom. Stability, wellness, and family support are essential. That’s why the DPSCD Foundation supports Health Hubs—dedicated spaces inside neighborhood high schools that provide wraparound services to remove barriers, improve student well-being, and ensure students can thrive.

With generous funding from the Ballmer Group and support from community champions like the Detroit Pistons’ Cade Cunningham, the Foundation has helped launch eight Health Hubs across DPSCD. These centers deliver services that keep students and families supported—because no student should have to miss school due to a lack of access to basic needs.

And more hubs are on the horizon.

What Health Hubs Provide

Each Health Hub is a one-stop resource offering:

  • Food Pantries & Basic Needs Distribution
Nutrition, toiletries, hygiene items, and more to keep families strong.

  • After-School Enrichment
Safe, structured spaces for learning, mentorship, and exploration beyond the classroom.
  • Laundry Access
In partnership with GE Appliances, every DPSCD school is now equipped with washers and dryers—removing a quiet but significant barrier to student attendance.

The Power of Possibility

When students are healthy, supported, and have their basic needs met, they’re more likely to thrive—in the classroom and in life. Health Hubs offer holistic care that addresses challenges many Detroit families face, from limited access to healthcare to food insecurity, housing instability, and more.

By removing these barriers, Health Hubs foster stronger school attendance, deeper engagement, and greater academic success. They also help restore dignity, provide stability, and strengthen the bond between schools and the communities they serve. This is the power of possibility: showing up for the whole student so they can show up ready to succeed.
