Detroit Students Lace Up for the Kids Marathon
Three hundred Detroit Public Schools students are hitting the pavement with brand new, custom-fit running shoes—thanks to a partnership between Priority Health and Running Lab. The program aims to help students build healthy habits, confidence, and discipline through running.
These aren’t just ordinary shoes. Each pair was individually fitted to support young runners as they train for the Detroit Free Press Kids Marathon. Over the next several weeks, students will log 25 miles at their own pace, learning perseverance along the way.
The journey will culminate on October 18th, when the kids gather at the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy to run their final mile together—crossing the finish line in celebration of their hard work.
“This kind of support shows our students that the community believes in them,” said a DPSCD representative. “They’re excited, and we want to see them finish strong.”
The initiative is part of a larger effort to encourage Detroit youth to stay active, set personal goals, and experience the joy of achievement—one stride at a time.
