Student Travel
Expanding Worldviews. Empowering Detroit Students to Rise.
At the DPSCD Foundation, we believe students rise when they’re able to see beyond their own neighborhoods — when they explore new places, experience new cultures, and imagine new possibilities for themselves. That’s the power of student travel.
From local college tours to international exchanges, we support travel opportunities that take learning outside the classroom and into the world. These experiences provide Detroit students with real-world context, deeper cultural understanding, and the confidence to step boldly into their futures.
Why Student Travel Matters
For many students across the Detroit Public Schools Community District, travel experiences offer a first: the first time leaving the city, the first time stepping on a college campus, the first time exploring another country. These moments create lifelong impact.
Student travel helps:
- Broaden cultural awareness and empathy
- Strengthen academic motivation and real-world readiness
- Connect classroom learning to lived experience
- Build confidence, independence, and global fluency
Whether it’s a university tour or a journey abroad, students return home with new perspective — and a clearer vision of who they can become.

As part of their French history curriculum, this immersive experience will allow them to explore world-renowned sites, deepen their language skills, and gain a broader understanding of global history. The Foundation is helping raise funds to support travel, lodging, meals, chaperones, and educational experiences for the students selected to attend.
